Leveraging your mobile device when buying a new car

Last night my wife and I bought a new car and traded in our old car. As we were waiting on the salesman to come back with what the final difference was with the trade, I asked my wife what she thought her car was worth. She didn’t know, but had a number in her head on what she wanted to pay. I pulled out my iPad and went to Kelly Blue Book to see what the trade value was for her car. I was going to keep this under wraps until the salesman came back with their offer. The salesman came back saying that they would give us $12,500 for our trade. At that point I showed him my iPad with Kelly Blue Book on the screen saying it was worth $15,000. He took the iPad to his Manager and after a bunch of “haggling” they finally agreed to give us $15,000 for our trade. Next time you are buying a car make sure you have a mobile device to show the dealer what your trade is really worth.
